New Convenor of CAN DO Ecosystem Forum announced
by Stephanie Anderson, Scottish Enterprise
The Scotland CAN DO vision is based on the clear recognition that if we are to achieve sustainable economic growth, and create opportunities for everyone in Scotland to flourish, then we must work to accelerate entrepreneurship and innovation together.
The CAN DO movement seeks to inspire more people from all walks of life to create, lead and grow successful businesses in Scotland. It supports building a progressive education system with entrepreneurship and innovation at its core, drives greater collaboration between businesses and the academic sector, and promotes diverse global markets for Scottish businesses.
Unlocking Ambition is part of the CAN DO movement alongside may other programmes, events and activities including the Scotland Can Do Scale Summer School, Scotland CanB, Can Do Fest and VentureFest Scotland.
“A strong ecosystem culture is like rocket fuel for entrepreneurial growth.”
Since 2016, entrepreneurial and innovation support organisations have come together to form the CAN DO Ecosystem Forum. The CAN DO Forum meets on a quarterly basis to update, share, collaborate, strategise and share examples of delivery which accelerates the movement to make Scotland ‘a world-leading entrepreneurial and innovative nation: a CAN DO place for business’.
The grassroots, ecosystem led Forum was established on the following principles:
- We have a relentless focus on supporting entrepreneurs in Scotland, to help them flourish and to help them build a world-leading entrepreneurial nation, a place where sustainable growth and innovation deliver benefits to all of society.
- We are radically collaborative
- We are radically transparent
- We role model the change we want to see: from how we are organised to how we work and treat each other
- It is lead by us: by a group of committed individuals from across the ecosystem who are driven to serve our entrepreneurial citizens.
SE has been a founding member and being part of the Ecosystem Forum means being an ambassador and official partner of CAN DO and it is an opportunity open to all those operating within the entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem across Scotland to get involved and join the movement.
The Forum was ably led from conception (with 6 organisations around the table) to the widely successful place where it is now (with over 40 members, all operating in a radically collaborative way) for the past two years by Adam Purvis, founder of Power of Youth and co-founder of FutureX who embodies the CAN DO values and spirit in everything he does. At the end of his two year tenure during the Forum’s first meeting of 2019, the reins of the Convenor/Facilitator role were handed over to the equally can do Rachael Brown, CEO of Cultural Enterprise Office and injector of entrepreneurial energy and inspiration, who was voted in by overwhelming majority. The Forum are extremely excited to see where Rachael leads the group over the next 2 years. You can find out more and get involved at (Opens in new window) www.cando.scot.
